Switzerland Ski Resorts

Switzerland is known for its breathtaking Alps and some of the world’s most popular ski resorts — perfect for any ski enthusiast or a stress-free family holiday.

Consider these popular ski towns for your ultimate winter getaway:

Cable car station in Switzerland
  • Zermatt

Zermatt sits at the foot the Matterhorn, which at 4,478 metres, is one of the highest mountains in Europe. The town is regarded as a top destination for skiing. This “crown jewel” of Switzerland has something for everyone. Whether a beginner or expert, skiers can enjoy a day of hitting the slopes. Sightseers can take in the town’s beauty on the famous Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car, or take a break from skiing to enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride during a day of shopping.
  • Flims Laax Falera

Often referred to as Laax, the three-part resort of Flims Laax Falera is a sight to see. If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, Flims offers snow-clad mountains for a morning hike or a cross-country skiing excursion. Falera feels like home with its authentic Graubünden-style village — great for family holidays. Laax has become largely known as the mecca for snowboarders. Just 90 minutes from Zürich and a little more than two hours from Milan, Laax is home to the Freestyle Academy, an indoor park for bikers, snowboarders and freeskiers. It is the first of its kind in Europe and remains a popular destination among tourists.
  • Davos

This unique destination is one of the highest Alpine resorts in Europe. The ski resort also is one of the largest in Switzerland, so it’s ideal for both intermediate and advanced skiers. During your visit, check out an ice hockey match at the Vaillant Arena to cheer on Hockey Club Davos, which has won 31 league titles. If watching is not enough, set aside some time to ice skate on the arena’s outdoor rink, which is made of natural ice.
  • St. Moritz

Not to be outdone, St. Moritz is rich in adventure. During the winter, partake in Corvatsch Snow Night, a skiing event at 7 p.m. every Friday. But this resort offers much more than just skiing. Get around town in the most unconventional way — by bobsled. Yes, bobsled. The St. Moritz–Celerina Olympic Bobrun gives taxi rides daily to the public after training sessions. As you discover St. Moritz, don’t forget to take the world-famous Glacier Express train that travels to Zermatt.
  • Saas Fee

Saas Fee is known as the “Pearl of the Alps,” and like Zermatt, is car-free to preserve the charm of the town. The resort is packed with adventure and holds three world records. After taking your chances on the slopes, hop on the world’s highest underground train (3,000 metres) for a picturesque ride through the mountains. Then grab a bite to eat at the sensational Mittelallalin Restaurant. Sitting 3,500 metres on top of the Allalin Mountain, the swank eatery revolves and gives visitors a 360-degree view of the mountains. Your day doesn’t have to end there. Pay a visit to world’s largest ice pavilion that includes stunning exhibits and sculptures.

Whether you want to ski or explore the natural beauty of Switzerland, these destinations are rich in natural beauty and culture. What are you waiting for? Get your skis!
